From there, I plan each session around what that student needs. I usually start by going over anything from last time, then we work through new topics together at a pace that feels right for them. I never rush through things just to tick a box. If something is not clicking, we slow down, try a different explanation, and work at it until it does.
I have been tutoring for over a year and I genuinely enjoy it. I have sat national Maths Olympiads and come away with medals, so I have a solid grip on the subject at every level. But more importantly, I remember what it felt like to find certain topics confusing, and that helps me teach with a lot more patience and understanding.
My sessions are never stressful. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong, and trying again. That is honestly how the best learning happens. By the end of each lesson, students leave knowing exactly what they have covered and feeling a little more confident than when they arrived. That progress, however small, is what I find most rewarding. I can make you promise you the confidence by the end of the session.
