Engaging English GCSE Lessons That Build Real Confidence
After 12 years of tutoring English GCSE, I've learned that every student has their own way of connecting with literature and language. My lessons are interactive and tailored specifically to you - no two sessions are ever the same.
My approach is hands-on: We'll read aloud together (both ways!), which helps me quickly identify where you need support and builds your confidence with texts. I create bespoke resources using contemporary authors like Nick Hornby alongside traditional texts, making literature more accessible and engaging.
For Language papers: Since you won't know the extracts in advance, I use varied, interesting texts that prepare you for anything. We'll practice the exact question types you'll face, focusing on the AQA exam criteria so you know exactly what examiners want to see.
For Literature: I break down complex themes and characters into manageable chunks, helping you develop personal responses that examiners love to read.
I'm sensitive to when you need encouragement and when you need a gentle push. Some days we'll slow down if concepts feel overwhelming; other days I'll challenge you when I can see you're capable of more.
My background: 2:1 English & American Literature degree, A-grade A-level English Literature, plus experience as a cover supervisor in secondary schools. I understand both the academic side and the pressures students face.
I understand that many teenagers have lost touch with reading and I enjoy the challenge of helping them reconnect with reading so that the GCSE exams don't feel like such an uphill battle.
