I started teaching maths from the beginning of my PGCE at Middlesex University London and gained my QTS in July 2021.
I have been teaching maths in different schools for different agencies with the focus on KS3, KS4 and GCSE
In my first school placement I taught mathematics in classes of Year and 10. My school placement and professional studies have given me various experiences in which to develop valuable skills, such as effective lesson planning and developing a wide range of assessment opportunities, using plenty of subject resources and observing and supporting SEN students. I have gained skills in developing effective and constructive relationships with students and staff. I had a great opportunity to develop my skills in behaviour management, particularly through my school-based research which was about reducing low-level disruptive behaviour in lesson. This research was carried out in a class with some SEN and EFL students as part of my PGCE course. It also helped me to develop my skills in considering differentiation and creating different activities to engage all students in lesson. I managed to build very good relationship with all students of my classes, and they wished I would carry on teaching them maths. I indeed, felt being very honoured.
My aim in teaching is to develop every student in the class by supporting low-set students directly, working with mid-set students and stretching high-set students with extension tasks. I applied this strategy in my first school placement, and it was extremely effective in involving all students in the classroom. Additionally, I observed and marked exams and supported staff in covering teachers in lesson. In my second School Based Research I teach Year 7, 8, and soon year 10 while carrying out my second assignment ‘Monitoring and Assessment for Learning’ (students’ attainment and progress).
Why teaching maths?
Although I am a qualified Electrical Power Engineer, teaching has always been my desired profession. I started teaching maths, physics and IT in community centres some 20 years ago. Studying Engineering at university in Germany was my greatest opportunity to study mathematics. Thus, I would like to convey this knowledge to the next generation and develop their skills and abilities. Seeing the joy and the success of the pupils I teach, and how proud they are of the progress they achieve, encourages me to teach in schools, where I can deliver my knowledge best.
Mathematical Background
• High mathematics in studying Electrical Power Engineering at the university.
• GCSE Maths/Edexcel.
• Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course at London Metropolitan University, Maths/AQA.
Work Experience
Beside studying Electrical Power Engineering, I was working in Web-Programming and Electrical Installations, this was where I could fully prove my abilities, quality of work and punctuality.
Working in Electronic and IT - Customer Service and Real Estate helped me develop my skills and abilities in dealing with people of different backgrounds and ages. I was very successful in management and marketing. Wherever I worked I could get on very well with my colleagues. It is important to maintain a fantastic atmosphere in the workplace as working in hard situations are very common.
Hobbies
I like playing football, table tennis and jogging. I like watching documentary films about science, IT, history and nature, and I usually read books about maths and physics.
It is my desire to build up children’s personality in a good manner and a peaceful way and to help every one of them to plan for their future and work for it decently.
