At the start of the lesson, the student can suggest a topic they struggle in - if they don’t know what they want to do for that lesson I can suggest one. The lesson will consist of me doing an example of a certain question then giving the student a similar question for them to try.

At the start of the lesson, the student can suggest a topic they struggle in - if they don’t know what they want to do for that lesson I can suggest one. The lesson will consist of me doing an example of a certain question then giving the student a similar question for them to try.
Whilst teaching, I will first explain and make them understand whilst writing down step by step method on the side and then allow them to copy the working out after they have fully understood. The step by step explanation on the side is so that the student can review the notes later on incase they need it.
I believe that the best way to learn is by teaching so I will have the student explain to me the steps on how to answer the question, as if they are the ones who are teaching me - this will allow them to develop confidence which is very important as doubting yourself often causes you to lose marks under exam pressure.
What tends to happen during exams is students get overwhelmed by “complicated numbers” but I will teach them to answer using logic and replacing numbers will smaller ones.
Homework will be given after each lesson so that the student can practice applying their skills - it will be checked the following lesson incase they have any questions or needed help with some of the questions. Furthermore, there will be a ‘do now’ at the start of the next lesson which will be on content from the previous lesson to test their knowledge.
