Our lessons will take place online, and will use a layered approach to understand each text to a deep level. Our lessons will take place online, and will use a layered approach to understand each text to a deep level. For example may start off with the bigger ideas, and then zoom in to closer analysis of language in order to explain why these big ideas emerge. This is important, as without a holistic understanding of literature, you can easily get bogged down in boring and muddy waters, which is a waste of time and also rubbish for motivation. This method should show a student how to genuinely enjoy the process of English Literature.
An important part of my teaching style is discussion, and allowing for a student to form their own interpretations and opinions on a text. Not only is this more fun, but it also better solidifies concepts in a students mind than giving them pre-planned or pre-written quote banks and analysis for them to remember.
Another key element is giving a student the tools to perform analysis on their own without the need for a tutor. By the end of our lessons, you should to have a transferable set of structures that can be applied to any text, hopefully carrying you forward to the next stage of your education.
Of course, I do not reject exam technique. The modern exam system is a series of hoops you need to jump through, and arguably the most important element to my teaching is showing you where these hoops are and the lowest-friction route through them...
Even if you don't choose me, I wish you luck in your academic plights!
