Favour Ogedengbe

I teach English to primary school children in a friendly, relaxed way. I know sitting down to do more work after school isn't every child's idea of fun, so I try to make lessons something they actually look forward to.

Each lesson has a simple shape. We start with a quick game or warm-up to get talking, then spend most of the time on one thing, such as reading, spelling, grammar, or writing, and finish by going back over what we've done so your child can see how much they've improved.

With younger children I work on phonics, reading out loud, spelling, and building sentences. With older ones it's usually comprehension, grammar, punctuation, writing stories, or getting ready for SATs. I plan around whatever your child needs help with, and I use things they're interested in, because most children who say they hate writing just haven't been asked to write about something they like yet.

I'm patient, and I don't rush. If something isn't clicking, we will slow down and try it another way. I'd rather a child finish a lesson feeling good about one thing they've cracked than get through lots of work feeling stressed.

I'm happy to let you know after each lesson what we covered and how your child got on. I'm also happy to focus on anything their teacher has flagged or homework they're stuck with. If there's something specific you'd like your child to get better at, just tell me and we'll build the lessons around it.
