I have given over 150 lessons remote and I've worked in a secondary school within the last year as a cover supervisor/teacher assistant so It really varies from one person to another and the teaching and learning style I use depends on what works for the individual or group. I prefer seeing what the student level is to start with then take it from there. If knowledge is very basic then starting from the fundamentals is important to clear up any misunderstandings then after explaining, I go through questions to make sure the student is following through and is engaged. First few questions I work through step by step with the student then if they feel confident they can finish it on their own then we mark it. Some students have came to my sessions with specific questions knowing exactly what they need to focus on and what they need help with which is perfectly fine too that's why its all down to each individual. For instance some students like to go through just questions every lesson as that's the method that works best for them and they want to improve their exam skills whilst others need help understanding the topic from the beginning which is very important and you should ask your tutor/teacher as many questions as you need to make sure you truly understand and can move on to attempting questions. I always tell my students no point doing endless past papers if your fundamental knowledge is lacking.
