I am a qualified English teacher, who has been working in the education field for three years. I choose to adapt my PowerPoint lessons and resources to fit each individual student; this is based on their ability, the topic covered, and their age. I mainly use PowerPoint slides, as they can encompass a variety of things such as pictures, videos/links, texts, tables etc. My lessons always have lesson objectives, a recall or basic knowledge starter to ease into the lesson, main tasks that add new knowledge to existing knowledge and a plenary that consolidates this knowledge. I vary tasks from lesson to lesson as I know that repetitive tasks can be boring and cause distraction and knowledge gaps. My teaching approach consists of A-B conversations; although I use my subject knowledge to teach my pupils, my lessons allow room for pupils to put in their input and also help with navigating the lesson and teaching style. All pupils are valued and respected in my classes, as there is mutual trust and respect at its foundation. I am very flexible and adaptable to my pupils' knowledge and therefore, if faced with difficulties or if the lesson pace is slower than what was planned, I am usually more than happy to use more time on a specific lesson or topic, to ensure pupil understanding. It is absolutely essential that all of my pupils leave my lesson, having achieved at least one lesson objective.
From my experience in teaching students from Year 6 to Year 11, my lessons are made to be accessible, knowledgeable and most importantly, fun for my students!
