My lessons are structured but never scripted — every session is built around where you actually are, not where the textbook says you should be. I believe most students don't struggle because they lack ability; they struggle because somewhere along the way, a foundational concept was never truly understood, and everything built on top of it feels unstable. Finding that point is where we start.
Format: Online (Zoom or Teams with a shared digital whiteboard) or in-person around Southampton. Sessions run 60 minutes, and we begin with a short conversation so I can understand your goals, your current level, and where things feel stuck — no obligation, no charge.
How a lesson flows: we start with a short diagnostic — a handful of carefully chosen questions that show me exactly which concept is wobbling. Then we rebuild that concept from first principles, so you understand *why* it works rather than just how to reproduce the answer. From there, we move to worked examples, and finally to exam-style questions, so that understanding turns into marks. Between lessons, I set a small amount of targeted practice and review it at the start of the next session, so nothing quietly slips away.
My experience: I hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (HKUST) and worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, with four peer-reviewed publications in journals including Nature Communications. I spent years running university tutorials, lab demonstrations, and research supervision — which means I've seen every common way a student gets stuck, and I know how to unstick them.
I teach GCSE and A-level Maths and Physics, plus university engineering modules — fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, solid mechanics, dynamics — and MATLAB/Python for coursework projects.
My students would describe me as patient, rigorous, and genuinely interested in the "why" behind every formula. If you want to stop memorising and start understanding, get in touch.
