I took sociology and psychology A level and achieved an A through making essay plans, and so most lessons will involve making essay plans with the student, as it allows for areas of misunderstanding to be addressed and worked on, while consolidating knowledge further, and leaving students with a valid piece of work to revise from external to sessions. Further to this, I believe having the skills to write effective essay plans builds confidence in ones ability to answer questions, helps them have a better and more nuanced understanding the content which not only helps them understand how to effectively apply their knowledge, but also allows them to engage in the content more and takes away the stress and overwhelmed feelings of examinations!
I help students engage with the content, which helps them to understand and find interest in the topic, which makes revising more interesting!
My sessions will also include elements of discussion about the topic, to allow for brainstorming of new out of the box ideas created by the student to include in their essay, which will impress the examiners and help them find a passion and fascination with the topic they are studying, which overall impacts their performance.
I also have a wide array of presentations and notes on all topics in these subjects, and so am happy to use these visual powerpoints to explain content, and then go through exam questions to learn the skills to apply the knowledge, so whatever comes up in the exam students have the knowledge and the skills to answer effectively and precisely to save time in the exam and gain the best grade possible.
I will provide a friendly and safe space where students want to learn and feel comfortable asking questions and can build confidence in their abilities to understand the content, learn effectively and and answer exam questions under timed conditions.
