Hi! My name is Evelyn and I have been teaching the flute for 3 years! I have experience teaching complete beginners and more experienced musicians. I really enjoy taking students from the flute basics and seeing them become confident players! In my lessons, I often work from the ABRSM grade books, which gives my pupils to opportunity to sit exams and receive certificates to commemorate their progress. A new student with me would learn how to hold the flute and produce a clear sound, as well as reading music and understanding rhythm, dynamics and intonation. I aim for each student to sit their grade one exam within the first two years of our lessons! With more experienced players, I am able to offer insight into tonal development and the development of musicianship, such as reading melodic lines and giving the music more shape and depth. I also make sure to cover skills such as scales, sight reading and basic music theory which allows my students to progress quickly! I am also able to tutor music theory separately, offering support alongside instrumental tuition. I use the ABRSM guides for music theory exams and my students use the workbooks to learn. I am currently a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and therefore I am based in Cardiff during the school terms. However, I am always able to teach via Zoom, meaning location is not a problem for my pupils. In Cardiff, I am happy to commute if you would prefer an in person lesson! I have one student level flute that I am able to bring to lessons with me, but I am unfortunately not able to leave this with my students, and therefore pupils will require their own instrument to practice on.
