I have extensive experience in tutoring students to apply for physics at Oxford university, where my students have been successful in receiving an offer. In my sessions I use complex questions which I guide students through in order to get to a greater understanding of the details of a topic. Throughout the questions I highlight areas of physical/mathematical significance and different methods we can use to problem-solve. My sessions are primarily a discussion, where we both ask questions that lead the conversations into interesting physics topics. As a result my sessions are unique to each student. Together we identify topics and question types to focus on, and from there I prepare content tailored to what is needed for the student to effectively learn.
My tutoring timeframe is flexible to each student but follows the general schedule of:
Sessions are scheduled and organised offline up to 2 weeks ahead of the date. If the student has any specific work they would like to go through they can send it to me before the class. Each class is 1 hour long unless otherwise specified. During class, we spend the first 5 minutes checking in on the students progress since I last saw them. We then bring up any questions/topics sent to me offline where I guide the student step-by-step through the problem. For the rest of the session we will work through questions prepared for specific topics we have agreed upon before the day.
This is only a framework we could use. If you would like something more specific or different I am happy to change the plan to fit your students needs.
