I Worked as an English as a foreign language teacher at Embassy Summer (at the University of East London) where I had the privilege to teach foreign students of all ages (8-18 years) who came to the UK to learn English and explore the UK for the summer. I taught 4 lessons a day (30 hours a week) of which I strategically lesson planned beforehand. Lessons were focused on encouraging students to engage in conversation rather than just learning grammar and vocabulary. The ability to engage in conversation is an essential skill for travelling to or living in another country.
My lessons begin with a fun warm-up activity which is aimed at testing the student’s current knowledge and recapping on previous lessons. After this warm-up, the student engages in a discussion surrounding a topic to improve conversational and speaking skills. Then the student will engage in writing and listening activities surrounding the same topic.
Having received feedback throughout the lesson, the student should have improved on their English speaking, listening and writing ability.
