Whatever works for you, works for me!

Our first lesson would usually include setting goals and trying to understand where you are struggling, and we can decide where to go from there.

I am happy to discuss exam techniques, how to approach different question styles, how to read analyse, and understand what you’re doing. My lessons are tailored to individual needs which I believe creates a focused, considered approach to learning. I believe that the key to success, especially in arts and humanities, is not memorising essay after essay, but equipping yourself with the analytical, presentational, and comparative skills which lead to success.

Anyone can remember key dates and facts, but a broad understanding of history encompasses culture, politics, economics and social change. The ability to call together these factors and to synthesise a coherent, well considered argument is the best way to succeed in historical studies, and makes everything a bit more interesting and fun!

Remember, it’s ok not to know, you’re here to learn!

I have experience working with those sitting National qualifications and have been involved in peer review groups at university. These experiences have taught me that anyone can succeed in history, no matter where you’re starting from. There is always room for improvement, but with history there are no wrong answers, as long as you can justify your argument.
