My Teaching Approach and Experience

With 25 years of experience teaching and performing the harp, I have developed a flexible and individual approach to teaching. Every student is different, so I tailor lessons to their musical interests, experience and ambitions. Whether you are taking your first steps on the harp, working towards graded exams, or studying at an advanced level, I aim to make lessons both productive and enjoyable.

Learning the harp is a wonderfully rewarding experience. It is an instrument with a beautiful, distinctive sound, but like any instrument, developing good technique from the beginning makes a huge difference. I help students develop a comfortable and effective technique, good posture, confident reading of music and a strong sense of rhythm and musical expression. Alongside technical skills, I encourage students to understand and enjoy the music they are playing, rather than simply learning notes.

For beginners, lessons are carefully paced so that you can make progress without feeling overwhelmed. We work on the fundamentals while introducing enjoyable pieces from the outset. More experienced students can explore repertoire in greater depth, refine their technique, develop musical interpretation and prepare for performances or graded examinations.

I believe that encouragement and confidence are central to successful learning. My aim is to create a friendly, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and trying new things. Above all, I want students to enjoy playing the harp and to develop a lasting love of music.
