I am a recent graduate from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Bmus(Jazz) 1st Class) with a specialism in Jazz Saxophone. In addition to this I am a dedicated and well practiced player of the Clarinet and teach the instrument currently on a freelance basis. Through studying music at a degree level I have gained a love for creativity, improvisation and the various avenues for musical expression.
When teaching, I am enthusiastic and committed, setting clear goals that are ambitious, yet, achievable. I like to tailor my lessons to each students interests, incorporating elements of contemporary music to their repertoire. As well as this, to keep lessons fresh I incorporate improvisation exercises and creativity challenges to keep every lesson engaging.
Further to this, I am committed to building and nurturing a caring and supportive learning environment for all of my students and I am always seeking new ways to develop my teaching techniques to provide more inclusive and accessible lessons. My general teaching style is quite relaxed as I aim to create a safe environment for my students to explore their musicality in. Learning an instrument is already hard enough!
I have been teaching clarinet and saxophone on a freelance basis for the last 5 years, throughout university and in the year since graduating. As well as this I spent two years teaching on The Original Jazz Summer School in Cardiff and have run workshops around the UK for The National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
I’m committed to supporting students over the long term, understanding that progress in music takes time. I always try to meet students where they are, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a genuine enjoyment of music that lasts.
