Elsa Turner Carroll

My experience working with children has always been very positive. I have worked both as a babysitter and teaching assistant at Willows Nursery, Singapore. During this time, I have learned patience and confidence in taking the lead and providing structure and guidance. Weather it contributes to a school project, giving advice if invited to do so, homework or ensuring that routine goes as usual.

Briefly in 2019, I also visited Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There, I and had the opportunity to visit the local schools and interact with the fortunate children who are being educated. Although the environment and teaching styles are vastly different there than they are in Europe, it allowed me to strengthen my teaching abilities. I was able to understand how to teach someone English without having a common language. This required dynamic teaching styles and high levels of interaction and motivation, which I enjoy.

I value a trusting relationship with the children I work with and I take pride in my fairness as well as my ability to be strict if need be. I feel as though it is important for the child to feel comfortable sharing personal information with me if necessary. I also recognise the important of teaching at the pace of the learning and I adapt my teaching style to best fit the needs of the child.

I think that trust is the most important thing when working with families, which is why I always follow the guidelines made by the parents. At work, I remain attentive and interact with the children at all times.
