I have been teaching languages to adults and children for more than 30 years.

I ensure students understand the grammar so they can use it to form meaningful conversation or writing. I will use the target language as much as possible. I give students structured and tailor made lessons according to what they already know. I set homework and will mark it so that students are shown their weaknesses but as time goes on I will ask students to review their work during feedback to find their own mistakes.

I encourage students to speak clearly and fluently and will correct pronunciation where the meaning is unclear. My methods are quite traditional but I get results. I expect students to work hard outside of lesson time and I will do marking as part of the hourly rate.

If I am unfamiliar with the exam someone is taking, I take time to fully read the specification before choosing what and how to teach.

People say that I go above and beyond what is normally expected of a tutor. I aim to help people be able to function to their potential when I do face to face lessons. I sometimes accompany students to their exams or appointments as I am often the only British person they know. I can also help students prepare and attend interviews, giving moral support for that first time in English.

I gain great satisfaction in my job and am happy to accept personal recommendations. I prefer face-to-face teaching but am able to do online tutoring as well.
