For me it is about getting to understand how individual students work best, whether this is videos or notes or using white boards. Worked examples and practice questions really helped me to understand what I had to do. So for maths I will be using a combination of independent but also working together. I will be here for guidance and support and teaching. I am willing to explain things as many times as I have too in any different way in order for my student to fully understand. I will use different online resources such as physics and maths tutor, exam specifications to really get an understanding of what exam boards are looking for and I will also use past paper questions specifically from exam boards. (I studied Edexcel Maths Higher Tier.) If it is a subject which uses a lot of outside knowledge (for example, Business) every session I will come with new and updated information about current affairs in the world to link learning content for an exam to the real world to create that overlap. I will also use online documents as a form of PowerPoint as it can be used as a revision guide as well as solidified and detailed notes for revision and memorisation. I will set tasks which should take no longer then 1 hour each week, I am wiling to do multiple sessions a week. For me I think the best way of revision Is getting everything on paper, either mindmaps or flash cards so they can be interactive but also fun and you can make it you own as I know revision can be tedious and repetitive. At the end of sessions I will do quizzes which can be a nice way to end of sessions but also isn’t too intense, it will act as active recall but also a wind down. As a student who is currently predicted A* A A in Business, Psychology and Sociology Alevel and secured 10 GCSE grades at 6-8 with 6 in maths, two 7s in English, 7 in business, 7 in geography, 7 in french and 7-6 in science I will tutor you in ways to make learning and revision less of a chore but more fun and enjoyable. Doing an essay alevel, a social science and business has allowed me to master my essay writing and time management skills, but also allowed me to use maths, logical and critical thinking as well as memorisation which I will bring to these sessions! Something important to me is annotating around texts or case studies or sources as it is an amazing skill not only for exams but for future employment as I feel it allows someone to blurt all of the knowledge they have and build up the exam question points and analysis in their head. For English I found it was really beneficial to make mindmaps per theme and character and link them together not only is it less time consuming. But it also means everything is in one place and everything isn’t so busy. I will use colour if it is helpful as I find associating themes or characters with a simple highlighter helped me remember important information easier. The texts I studied was Love and Relationships poetry, Animal Farm, Macbeth and Frankenstein for AQA exam board. My main objective is too tailor revision and learning to what each student needs and what works best for them!
