Having gone through the English school system I know just how frustrating, fun, sleep-depriving and satisfying it can be.
I studied English Literature through to my A-levels and struggled for some time with achieving only slightly above average marks for what I perceived to be some of the best essays that had yet been written. Finally, after a shift in the way I perceived what my teachers were telling me, I was achieving full marks on all of my essays.
This experience changed my understanding of learning for the better. It made me realise how different people comprehend the same learning in sometimes completely different ways. It broadened my approach to how I learn, but also to how I teach others. Incorporating a wide range of learning techniques but also individualising the experience - getting to know the ways a student thinks, what engages and excites them and tailoring the process to what best suits them.
I have always been extremely passionate about reading, writing and all things English-related. My groaning bookshelves can attest to this. In my high school years, I was in the top 5% for English in the country and the top 4% for English writing. I have a sophisticated knowledge of poetry, Shakespeare, early modernist writings and much more.
