Taking the communicative approach means getting the student to produce as much as possible since this allows for active participation as well as correction where needed in situ. I have taught across a range of subjects with a main focus on business and the arts. As such I am happy to incorporate any topic of interest into lessons to improve English. On occasion it is also useful to ask the student to do some lesson preparation such as reading an article or watching a video so the actual lesson time can be used for discussion and practical input. I have prepared students for the full range of Cambridge exams and IELTS and love sharing the sense of achievement when they reach their goals such as attaining a score for entry into university. Apart from English language teaching, I also have extensive experience in teaching academic skills such as how to research, referencing techniques, note-taking from sources, academic writing and planning essays, presentations or other writing formats. I have found that these skills are usually developed faster in one-to-ne tutorial type sessions with individualised guidance. In this way I support both graduate and undergraduate international students to attain their goals of succeeding at university and achieving the scores they aim for.
