Elaine Kurniawan

I’m a second-year Pharmacy student at UCL with a strong academic foundation in Maths and over a year of experience tutoring my juniors. My lessons are designed to be calm, encouraging, and structured around each student’s needs. I know that Maths can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I focus on creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and taking their time to understand each topic fully.

My teaching style is based on clear, step-by-step explanations and practical examples. I believe that true understanding comes from seeing why something works, not just memorising formulas. I often use real-life situations or simple analogies to make abstract concepts easier to grasp and more enjoyable to learn. After explaining a topic, I guide students through practice questions to check understanding and build long-term confidence.

I take pride in being patient and approachable while still motivating my students to keep improving at their own pace. If something doesn’t make sense, I’ll re-explain it in different ways until it does — no question is ever too small. I also help students develop study habits and exam techniques that make learning more effective, organised, and less stressful.

Each session is personalised — whether it’s preparing for IGCSE exams, strengthening weak topics, or improving overall problem-solving skills. My goal is not only to help students achieve better grades but also to help them feel capable, confident, and proud of their progress. Seeing a student grow from uncertain to confident is what makes tutoring truly meaningful and rewarding for me.
