I have experience helping out in lower years maths classes at my school, by supporting them with practice questions, as well as organising activities and exercises for them. This has helped me understand different ways of teaching children in order to help them understand various to the best of my ability. I like to teach by first learning what the student understands about a topic and then locating their area of struggle to help them fill any gaps in their knowledge so they can fluently answer questions and solve problems. I have researched the best revision methods for math, as reflected in my grades, so I incorporate this in to my teaching to ensure that the student can learn and remember topics with maximum efficiency. I understand the importance of practice so after learning where they require extra help, I provide the student with questions and exercises specific to their ability and understanding that not only provide vital practice, but also better help them understand the topic. I make sure to build a positive and supportive relationship with the student to create a comfortable learning environment. I start the lesson with a small exercise to warm them up for the lesson, this includes assessing the student's current level of understanding and identifying their strengths and weaknesses in math. Then, I work with the student to set specific, achievable goals for the tutoring sessions based on their needs and objectives. I make sure to help the student make connections between the math concepts they are learning and real-world applications. I show them how math is used in everyday life, in other academic subjects, and in various careers and professions. This can increase the student's motivation and engagement by demonstrating the practical relevance of what they are learning. I solicit feedback from the student to understand their perspective and adjust my teaching strategies accordingly. I continuously monitor the student's progress and adjust the tutoring plan as needed to ensure they are making meaningful progress towards their goals. At the end of each tutoring session, I take some time to reflect on what went well and what could be improved and use this information to be properly prepared for their next lesson.
