Lesson Structure:
Lessons are conducted online via MS Teams. After each lesson, I send out a lesson report along with any materials used in the lesson. This usually includes a copy of the virtual whiteboard and/or any virtual handouts that were used in the lesson. These are sent via email after the lesson. If you are a parent/guardian requesting tutoring on behalf of your child, you will be copied in on any communication.
I tutor according to the specific needs of the client and lessons are thus personalised to each student. As such, you will have a say in what topics we cover in the lessons. Conversely, if I notice that there are any topics you are particularly struggling with, I will recommend we spend time on these topics and/or structure lessons around them.
I offer a free 15-20 minute initial consultation before lessons start. This is optional but recommended, as it gives you a chance to get to know me and ask any questions, and it gives me a chance to get to know your circumstances and how to plan the first few lessons to best suit your needs.
A summary of my experience:
- I have over 10 years of experience of working in mathematics, which includes both teaching and research at various mathematics institutions across the UK. This includes The University of Leicester, Loughborough University, Durham University, and The University of Hertfordshire.
- I have 3 years of mathematics tutoring experience specific to GCSE, A Level, and Further Maths.
- I have additionally taught numerous BSc modules and I am happy to provide tutoring for some of these too. Specific BSc modules I can help with include Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, Groups, Rings, Fields/Galois Theory, Lie Algebras, Representation Theory, Matrices and Forms, and some aspects of Real Analysis.
- I hold a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Leicester, which I obtained in 2018. I additionally worked as a Teaching Assistant at the university during my PhD.
- I hold a first class honours in my MMath degree in Mathematics at The University of York, which I obtained in 2013.
- I achieved A, A, A, A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing at A Level in the highest grade at the time.
- I studied for my GCSE in mathematics independently at age 13 via the National Extension College. I took the exam in 2005 (two years ahead of my peers), achieving an A*.
My personal biography:
I am an enthusiastic mathematician with a strong passion for educating and inspiring others about the subject area. As well as being a tutor of mathematics, I have maintained an active research career at a number of UK universities, such as Loughborough University, Durham University and The University of Hertfordshire, where I have pursued cutting-edge research in an area of mathematics called representation theory. Representation theory is the study of symmetry and its expression/representation via vectors and matrices, and has diverse applications from solving problems in abstract algebra to understanding the mathematics of particle physics.
I have published several research articles in representation theory, and have been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences on the subject area. Outside of mathematics, I am also an amateur artist, with a focus on acrylic landscape paintings.
