I like to support my students and help them gain confidence as lessons progress. I combine written exercises with conversation. I provide constructive feedback and note vocabulary and grammar that can be developed further in future lessons.

Lessons are tailored to the outcomes students wish to achieve. Wanting to learn a language to prepare for a holiday or a job, is different from seeking to pass UK examinations and I organise my tutoring sessions accordingly.

I have over five years' experience of supporting students to prepare for exams such as the British 11+ and also looking at literature and language as they settle into secondary school. A number of my students were from families where English was not the first language. The pace of the lesson varies depending on the particular interests and strengths of individual students to encourage continual progress. Learning a language is not like climbing a mountain - there are highs and lows and my aim is to encourage my students to have a curiosity about English and wish to learn more in a confident and supported way.

As l have a strong business background and have worked in the public and private sector, with many years' experience in the not-for-profit field (this includes professional associations and a health charity) I would be very happy to help adult learners improve their English language skills.

As I have learnt various languages over the years and worked in four different European countries, including at the European Commission, I know how challenging learning can be - and how satisfying and enjoyable it is when you gain confidence at school, at work or in your social life.
