I usually start by doing a paper to see which level the student is at and what gaps are to fill in and focus on.
We can go through topic by topic, but if you get the basic idea we can save up some time and go straight into random sets of questions for practice.
I like letting the student solve problems themselves and giving hints or faster strategies to help them along the way. Then i give them a different form of the main part of the problem to double check if they understand the strategy and help stick it to the brain longer.
My quicker strategies in solving questions won’t always be like the way you learn it in the UK, but they won’t have to learn anything new.
If the student has any questions from their own work, they can send it to me and we can go through them together during our lessons. if they have specific question packs they want to do in lessons i’d be happy to do so aswell.
I also plan in training the student in mental maths. It may not sound very important as we are allowed a calculator, but it doubles up your speed and saves up a lot of method lines, so i strongly recommend it.
I’ve done mentoring from the level of teaching x and y axis to doing super hard and diabolical questions, so i’m confident i can guide the student to their next step, wherever they are.
