I have achieved 4 A*’s, 4 A’s and 2 B’s in GCSE, achieving an A in maths. I had noticed that some techniques taught in school take longer to grasp.
I have developed different techniques in order to maximise a student’s ability in answering questions while I consistently encourage and motivate them. I hope to boost their confidence in maths which will improve along with time.

My first lesson aims to walkthrough a sample paper with the student to view their strengths and weaknesses. I will then plan methods for improvement in each topic and consistently walkthrough similar questions until improvement is achieved.
I plan to provide them with 2 more questions from the topic of the previous lesson just to ensure they have understood techniques taught. I will supply them with techniques that helps them multiple question types.
For example with ratios, when simplifying ratios with mixed fractions, it’s a different step to simplifying whole number ratios but it’s all about finding the right learning technique.
Each lesson, we will go through topic worksheets on each topic so that each level of difficulty is targeted and the solution is achieved. I will also write a mini report after each lesson for the parent/carer and student to view for future reference. I will ask the student what they did in their school lesson and how they found it. Even if they say it went well, I will still give them a few questions just to solidify their knowledge. We will go through one together and the next questions they will do on their own. After every 4 topics, I will form a maths paper that they will do in lesson with those so that I can truly see that they are learning effectively because I know every child learns differently. It will be made into a routine to answer maths questions.
I have been tutoring for a while now with years of experience. I always ask different questions so that I am confident that the student understands the topic now, if previously misunderstood. When tutoring, I will ensure that steps are given simply for easier understanding of questions. I have been tutoring friends in person and there has always been improvements in which I have visibly seen after answering a variety of questions.
