Most of the time when teaching I apply Universal Design for Learning. This is because learners have different learning styles. In addition, I make sure that my learners discover information for themselves. This helps them to learn how to research and then construct knowledge. I usually start by introducing the topic, and then linking the introduction to the topic to be taught. I use real life examples when I have to give them examples. I have been teaching for the past thirty years therefore I know different teaching techniques that can be used to teach learners with different abilities.
During the delivery of the content, I make sure that learners are motivated to participate by using positive reinforcement. Then I use various ways to assess the achievement of the learning objectives such as oral and written activities. I also give them constructive and appropriate feedback. Usually I break the content of the lesson into chunks. For example, if the topic is "Nouns", I give them a passage and ask them to identify nouns in the passage. Then to write the nouns on their books. Then I mark, and after marking I ask them to use nouns in sentences. This helps learners to start learning from known to unknown. And learning becomes easier for them or they enjoy learning.
At the end of the lesson I conclude the lesson by summarizing the main points. If there are learners who did not understand the topic taught, I asked them to remain after the lesson so that I help them individually.
