My GCSE English lessons are interactive, structured, and designed to make even the most challenging topics feel manageable. I create clear, well-organised resources that break down key skills — from language analysis to essay planning - into simple, engaging steps. During lessons, I guide students through the material while encouraging them to actively annotate, highlight, and interact with the texts we study, helping them take ownership of their learning.
I take a very exam-oriented approach. Not only do I teach students the content they need - from literature set texts to language techniques - but I also focus on applying that knowledge in an exam setting. We regularly work through past papers and mark schemes so students can see how to structure answers, hit assessment objectives, and maximise their marks under timed conditions.
I also help students take their essays to the next level by encouraging independent research. Together, we explore the historical, social, and cultural context behind the works they study, and we compare those texts with modern interpretations and adaptations. This approach deepens their understanding, strengthens their critical thinking skills, and helps them craft more sophisticated and insightful responses - the kind that examiners reward.
I supervise and support my students closely, offering personalised feedback on essays and practice questions. My aim is to build both their confidence and their exam technique so they walk into the exam room feeling prepared and capable.
