Hi everyone!
I'm Dan, a forth year Maths student at Cambridge, and I can't wait to help you bring your understanding (and hopefully enjoyment) of Maths to where you want it to be.
My experience tutoring includes : setting up a Maths support group at my sixth form, tutoring students from nearby schools in Maths and Physics, supporting Sixth Form students in STEP (the Maths entrance exam for Cambridge), and tutoring privately for the last two years. Moreover, I'm quite fresh of the exam circuit of GCSE's and A-levels and so I've got a strong knowledge of the modern exams and specifications (including the new 9-1 system).
As opposed to rote memorisation, I aim to show students why the Maths they are doing works, so any novel problems can be tackled with confidence. I take the time to unpick complicated seeming problems with students to demonstrate how manageable they can become with an effective method. Moreover, a lot of the time, I try to guide students to complete a problem themselves without explicitly doing it while they watch: this way they can gain confidence in their own ability without needing pages and pages of methods to learn off by heart. That said, I am also aware that often a little bit of memorisation is needed and so I've also got a big bank of tools and tricks so this is made as manageable and easy as possible.
On the technical side of things, I usually use Zoom for lessons but am very flexible to whatever works best for you. The same goes for lesson length and frequency; the choice is up to you.
I lookn forward to hearing from you and getting to work on some problems, Dan :)
