I have a great enthusiasm for the sciences and wish to inspire this same enthusiasm in all of my pupils. I believe that science should be an engaging and rewarding subject, while also recognising that pupils can sometimes find scientific concepts challenging. My aim is therefore to create a supportive learning environment where pupils feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their understanding at their own pace.
Building a good working relationship with my pupils is one of my strengths and something I believe to be absolutely key in helping to provide the highest quality private lessons. I take the time to understand each pupil's individual strengths, areas for development and learning needs, allowing lessons to be tailored accordingly. I can adapt my teaching style and explanations to ensure that difficult concepts are broken down into manageable steps.
I have a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status, alongside experience teaching science across Key Stages 3 and 4 and Physics at A Level. I use up-to-date cognitive science techniques in my lessons, including retrieval practice, regular questioning, spaced practice and carefully structured explanations, in order to support the build-up of scientific knowledge in the long-term memory.
I can provide support with developing subject knowledge, exam technique, practical understanding and confidence. I can also use exam-style questions and past-paper practice to identify misconceptions and prepare pupils effectively for assessments. Lessons are adapted to the pupil's current level and can focus on specific topics or provide broader revision programmes.
A typical lesson will last an hour, but this can be increased at request. I am happy to discuss the pupil's requirements in advance and develop a programme of lessons designed around their individual goals. My overall aim is not simply to help pupils achieve better grades, but to develop their confidence, curiosity and ability to think scientifically.
