I've been teaching across the World to many different nationalities and all different levels. There's no "one size fits all" approach that can be taken to teaching English. Every student will have a different way or a different preference in learning English. The first task is to find out what that student likes or which way they learn the best. After this, TBL (Task Based Learning) methods are incorporated to allow the student to make practical sense out of the teaching material they are presented with. By giving relevance to what you're learning, you'll absorb this information in a seamless manner and you won't even realize how much information is retained whenever it doesn't feel like traditional learning.
This is especially true for people who struggle with grammar. It's very common that many of us find it extremely difficult and / or tedious in learning grammatical formulas and verb tenses which feels more like learning maths than a language. My approach to this is simple: grammar, as it is taught in schools across the World today, is NOT a smart or productive way to learn or use your time. I imagine that you can speak your native language like a poet. However, I am almost certain that if I ask you a question about grammar related to your native language, you won't really know anything about rules, verbal conjugations, tenses etc. Yet, you can speak like a poet.
