- Structured but flexible: each lesson follows an agenda set with the student (review ? new focus ? practice ? plan).
Typical lesson structure
1. Check-in (5–10 mins): mood, sleep, recent work, quick mindfulness breathing to centre.
2. Review (5–10 mins): go over prior targets, homework or past exam practice; immediate feedback.
3. Core work (20–35 mins): targeted academic coaching or mindfulness practice depending on the session focus:
- Study skills sessions: planning, note-taking, active revision techniques, exam strategies, time-management, breaking tasks into manageable steps.
- Subject-focused support: English (literacy, comprehension, essay structure, verbal expression) or study techniques applied to other subjects.
- Mindfulness sessions: short guided meditations, breathing exercises, body scans, attention training, simple grounding tools for exam nerves.
- Movement/yoga breaks: short, screen-friendly stretches or sequences to reduce tension and re-energise focus.
4. Practice & modelling (5–10 mins): live practice (timed retrieval, writing under guidance, mini-meditation) and coaching through difficulties.
5. Goal-setting & home plan (5 mins): clear, achievable targets and short activities to practice before the next lesson.
