While explaining an operation or skill, I use a visual or graphics to help get the point across to students.

I also help to build their sense of concept by connecting them to real life world using domestic examples.

Maths is typically a progression-based subject; skill built one upon another, and the order in which they're taught is predetermined. I use assessment to determine students' understanding, and identify the ones who needs additional one-on-one instruction.

In addition, maths is all about problem-solving using strategies. I model several strategies for understanding and exploring concepts, to help the students build this mental picture that being able to reason through the steps to finding the right answer is the most important part of being a successful maths student.

Not every skilful person can truly teach others. We give only what we have, and how we give is up to us. The knowledge teachers share will always be shaped by who they are.
