Through a virtual whiteboard, I excel at covering the chapters that each student is weak at by first explaining the basic fundamentals and moving on to questions. My strategy after covering every chapter the student believes they are the weakest at, involves moving on to past papers and practice through repetition while they gain more confidence and competence to perform excellent at their final exam.

I use calibrated open-ended questions to prompt the student to answer their own questions, so that they learn to arrive at the answer themselves rather than make them think they will always need a tutor by their side to perform well enough to pass a test. However, I also use questions to slowly gauge the level of each student and tailor my lessons accordingly. It might take 2 or 3 lessons for us to warm up, but once we figure out our unique rhythm we can kick things off and the results speak for themselves!

I also treat my relationship with students professionally and respectfully. I'm not their teacher! That means I'm not going to be strict, but I will explain to them how much more they would benefit if they took the time to pay attention during their time with me. I believe the greatest benefit from this relationship comes from the environment I strive to create. It is often difficult to ask 'stupid questions' to teacher in class, especially with other students around. By creating a safe space, I emphasize how important it is to ask anything and everything that's on their mind, as well as make mistakes as often as possible. This gives both me and them the best idea of what they need to improve in and tailor the lesson accordingly.
