Christopher Carlson

My name is Christopher Carlson. I have been teaching algebra, geometry, precalculus and calculus for over 25 years. All my experience and education is in the US, and I pride myself on being easy to understand both in speaking and writing. I have recently moved to the UK to live with my wife and new baby.

I started tutoring maths during my time in university, where I majored in mathematics. I spent a year completing a masters in secondary mathematics education. This prepared me to teach secondary school mathematics for 3 years. After that, I went back to graduate school and completed a PhD in mathematics where I graduated in 2012. Most recently, I taught maths at community college for 12 years, both in-person and online.

My tutoring begins with getting to know the material that you are working on, and then taking my time to learn exactly where your difficulties are. We will then address these by going and reviewing any prerequisite knowledge that you will need to get caught up with these topics.

From my extensive experience helping thousands of students, I have developed general study and exam preparation habits that have worked for many students over these decades. I will help you focus on the concepts that you are struggling with, starting with the most essential. We will talk about how to get yourself un-stuck when working math problems on your own. As exams are approaching, we will build a plan on what to focus on in order to maximize your score.
