I love English literature and The Theatre, and teaching about Dickens, Shakespeare and any playwrights or poets always fills me with passion, and I fell that I can always bring that enthusiasm on board for my students.
I like to do pacey lessons which have a variety of different activities and I also use lots of Q and A to ensure the students knowledge and understanding. I use scaffolding and also sentence started and always have a wide range of vocabulary for my students to learn and how the vocabulary can be used appropriately.
It is always crucial for me to identify my students strengths and weaknesses and to then work on any weaknesses and to solidify their knowledge and understanding of subject matter.
With GCSE English lessons for example, I ensure that we have the syllabus to relate to constantly, and that we are aiming at what the exam board are looking for and HOW to answer the questions to gain high marks and get into the top band for grading.
I also model exemplar responses to students so that we can discuss and talk through together what makes a good response and also exactly what the examiners are looking for.
