I’m a traditionally trained artist with a BA in Fine Art from Newcastle University and a classical education at Charterhouse School, one of the UK’s leading boarding schools. I have also studied at the Charles Cecil Studio in Florence, where I deepened my understanding of classical oil painting and drawing techniques. My work follows the traditions of the Old Masters, with a strong focus on observation, proportion, tone, and colour. These time-honoured methods — once the cornerstone of every artist’s training — are rarely taught in depth today, and I’m passionate about keeping them alive by sharing them with others.

My teaching is fully tailored to each student’s goals and interests. Some want to master the precision of drawing, others want to understand colour theory, and many simply want to enjoy the creative process. Whether you’re preparing for art school, building a portfolio, exploring a new hobby, or returning to art after a break, I’ll adapt each lesson to suit your pace, experience, and aims. I create a friendly, supportive environment where you can experiment, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.

Online sessions are run via video call and structured for clarity and engagement. We begin with a short discussion about your aims for the lesson, followed by a live demonstration where I explain each step of the process. You’ll work alongside me, with real-time feedback and guidance. I use multiple camera angles so you can see both my work and my explanations clearly, and I can annotate reference images on-screen to highlight key points. After each session, you’ll receive a summary of what we covered, along with exercises to continue developing between lessons.

I work with all ages and skill levels, and I’m happy to accommodate different time zones and schedules. Before booking, I’m always keen to arrange a free chat to discuss your expectations, goals, and what you’d like to achieve — ensuring your lessons are personal, focused, and rewarding. Whether your aim is to learn the foundations of traditional oil painting, improve your drawing accuracy, or simply discover the joy of making art, I can guide you with clarity, structure, and enthusiasm.
