I have worked in a school as a teaching assistant with children from various backgrounds and needs. I believe if you enjoy a subject you are more likely to do better in it, so I would try to help students find joy and interest in English learning whether it is learning to read or write it can be fun and exciting by talking, using props and very basic sign language.
