I am a passionate teacher of Mathematics, who aims to ensure that all students are actively engaged in a lesson. I encourage a positive atmosphere of trust and calm, to allow any student to actively communicate throughout the lesson, to ensure that the concept being taught is thoroughly understood. I practice frequently checking a student's understanding before proceeding to another topic, question or lesson slide.
During a lesson, I endeavour to provide the learner with age appropriate Mathematics questions, however, I also include challenging questions, where the student came use the current knowledge to attempt and complete the question. Regardless of the age level, I endeavour to include at least 1 GCSE question aligned to the current content, in the Applied Learning Task, to allow the learners to get a feel of what to expect when completing their GCSEs.
My lesson structure is outlined below:
* Starter Task - Students are given 4 questions to complete. These questions are related to prerequisite knowledge that it required for the lesson. The Starter task last for approximately 10 minutes.
* I Do - The teacher states the objective of the lesson, and introduces the concept through the use of demonstrations, explanations and worked examples.
* We Do - The learner is asked guided questions on how to complete a particular questions, based on the demonstrations and explanations by the teacher. The teacher repeats the steps and reasons for emphasis before moving on.
* You Do - The learner is allowed to work on their own, to complete at least one question. The learner must be able to explain what they did to arrive at the solution.
The I Do, We Do and You Do process may be repeated if secondary concepts are taught.
* Checking for Understanding - The learner is given a range to questions to check if they fully understand the objectives being taught. Further explanations are given by the teacher if necessary.
* Applied Learning Task - The learner is given questions to complete on their own. This includes at least 1 challenging question and 1 GCSE question. The learner is usually allowed 15 to 20 minutes to complete the set of questions.
* Homework - The learner is given at least 1 question to complete in their own time and present at the next session
