All the work that we do in the tutoring sessions will be based on actual examination questions that you may get on the question paper when you go in for your exams. We will discuss the question together first by referring to the extract of text on the question paper, then I will ask you to write a paragraph based on our discussion about the extract. So, if you are studying Macbeth by Shakespeare for example, we will explore a question, eg. How does Shakespeare present Macbeth as a troubled character?’ First by reading and discussing the extract, then by discussing his troubles in the play as a whole. The paragraphs you write in response to the question, I will read and give you ways to improve to achieve a higher grade then you can rewrite the paragraphs. When teaching Language we will create characters and settings that you can transport into the exam with vivid description and vocabulary that will firmly place you in Band 4 for a good grade that will go with you for the rest of your life. Discussion is my first strategy because all the research suggests that talking about your ideas before writing will always produce a better written piece than one without prior discussion. It will also help with any speaking presentations that you have to take for any subject.
