I have graduated from the University of Liverpool with a bachelors in Robotics Engineering, a subject that deals with highly advanced mathematical concepts such as matrices, alternative coordinate systems, three dimensional calculus, etc. This strong technical background is where I pull from when counseling others on maths, and it allows me to see the learning progression from basics all the way to university level material.
I teach areas such as algebra, geometry, arithmetic and geometric series, calculus, matrices, boolean algebra, spherical and cylindrical coordinate planes, as well as related subjects like Physics, electrical engineering, and electronics.
Every student has their own skills, challenges, ideas, and goals, and I take pride in being able to tailor the learning experience towards each individual. I believe the first step is a conversation and some basic maths questions to figure out what the student struggles and excels at. Then, a multi-method explanation of the basics leading up through the complex end of the subject, with example problems integrated in, will be reinforced with guided practice problems. The learning path is dynamic and doesn't always work in a straight line, as progress can be complex and more challenges unearthed as the learning continues. However, a patient and compassionate approach to learning is always more long lasting and efficient than a rush through a pre-designed work package.
Young minds need to be treated with respect and dignity, not talked down to. My approach will take the form of a careful and considerate conversation between myself and the student. It is the student who leads me through their challenges, not me who decides I know the best path forward before even meeting them. Only when in a safe and understanding environment will a student have the confidence to discover their own brilliance.
