What to Expect from My Lessons:
Every session is 100% personalized, but here's how I typically organize our time together:
First 10 minutes – We review what you've covered since our last session, check homework, and identify any immediate questions or concerns. This helps me gauge where you're at and what needs attention.
Main session (30-40 minutes) – This is where the real work happens. Depending on your needs, we might:
- Break down a challenging topic from scratch using real examples and visual aids
- Work through past paper questions together, with me guiding your thought process
- Practice specific exam techniques (like problem-solving strategies or time management)
- Address misconceptions that are holding you back
I use a digital whiteboard where we both work simultaneously—you're not just watching me solve problems. I'll ask you to explain your thinking, which helps cement understanding and shows me exactly where confusion creeps in.
Last 10 minutes – We consolidate what you've learned, I assign targeted practice, and we plan what to focus on next session.
My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe maths clicks differently for everyone. Because I wasn't naturally gifted at it, I've learned to explain concepts in multiple ways—visual, logical, practical—until we find what works for you. I'm patient with repetition and never make you feel silly for asking questions.
I focus heavily on why methods work, not just how to do them. Understanding the logic means you can adapt to any question format, not just memorize procedures.
My Background:
As an Economics graduate from Warwick, I use maths daily in statistical analysis and modeling. This keeps my skills sharp and my knowledge current. I've been tutoring for 3 years, working with students across the ability spectrum—from those struggling to pass to high-achievers targeting top grades.
I'm familiar with all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and stay updated on specification changes and marking patterns. I regularly review recent past papers to understand what examiners are currently emphasizing.
What Makes Me Different:
Most tutors were maths prodigies who breezed through school. I wasn't. I had to develop systems, strategies, and study techniques to improve—going from average grades to excelling. That journey gave me insights that natural mathematicians often can't provide. I know what it feels like to be stuck, and I know the exact steps to get unstuck.
I also focus on building your independence. My goal isn't to create dependency on tutoring but to equip you with skills and confidence so you can tackle problems on your own.
Flexibility:
Sessions are typically 60 minutes but can be adjusted. I offer evening and weekend slots to fit around school schedules. All you need is a laptop/tablet, stable internet, and willingness to engage.
