I have worked as a commercial photographer and also carry out my own fine art projects. I like to encourage students to use the manual controls of their cameras and understand by 'doing'. I like to build confidence by working side by side 'in the field' - this stems from my experience teaching workshops. I encourage practice with iso, shutter and aperture. I coach students to make great strides in technical understanding and practical ability, whether shooting portraits, still lives or landscapes - or in their work toward a portfolio in colour or black and white. I can assist a student to understand how an iconic photograph was lit or executed and explain how a student can work for a similar result. I also have an academic background in art history, and have curated exhibitions, and can competently explain developments in the history of photography.
