Bobby Cotterilll

Hello! My name is Bobby. I am a qualified music teacher based in Newcastle Under-Lyme. With 18 years of experience, I have taught thousands of students aged 5+ in a range of settings.

My most recent job was a violin teacher for a music service, where I visited around 20 schools per week. I also ran the junior string orchestra and taught music theory classes. Before this, I was a classroom music teacher at a special school for children with emotional/behavioural difficulties.

My goal is to provide a calm, friendly and fun environment. I firmly believe that progress is possible with all students as long as the lessons are appropriate to their ability and learning needs. I have extensive experience of teaching children with autism, emotional/behavioural problems, and gifted & talented students.

My lessons are well-paced and varied. I aim to teach the context/theory around the music, as well as just instrumental technique. I incorprate lots of music technology to help students learn.

Don't worry if you've never played before. I have taught hundreds of beginners over the years, and got them through the initial stages through to taking graded exams. I have spare violins you can borrow for the first few lessons if you haven't taken the plunge into buying one yet, and need a bit of advice before doing so.

I am also a semi-professional bassoonist and can teach this instrument up to an advanced standard. I can also get you through music theory grades and provide extra help with GCSE music.
