I specialise in teaching students at the GCSE level and above (A-Level, and undergraduate prep). My decision to focus exclusively on this age group is because, from GCSE onwards, I find that students possess the increasing motivation and dedication necessary to develop the independent study skills central to my teaching philosophy.
The format of my lessons is highly personalised based on the student's needs and current level. My core approach is to speak with the student and pinpoint their greatest areas of weakness or most common causes for mistakes. Once located, we spend the majority of our time together reviewing these confusing areas, as this will make the biggest difference to their progress. Periodically, we revisit prior topics to ensure strong retention and sustained progress.
I offer three main tutoring formats:
Long-Term Support: Working over sustained periods to build knowledge and understanding, resulting in improved grades. The tutoring naturally becomes more personalised as I learn the student’s specific ways of thinking.
Short-Term Targeted Classes: Directed support for individuals who feel confident overall but want to quickly address specific, difficult topics.
Unique STEM Degree Preparation: I can help sixth-form students prepare for university by teaching the specific mathematics most relevant to their chosen STEM degree. For this, I research the course curriculum and design a tailored plan.
Accordingly princing varies on the approach choosen due to the preparation time necessary for lessons.
The commonality across all my teaching is the focus on helping students develop the skills for learning mathematics themselves. This period of education requires a sharp increase in self-teaching and self-study independence. This is the global tool from my teaching that will assist the student far beyond our time studying together, giving them confidence for their entire academic career.
