I teach maths with an interactive, student-centred approach. I use mini whiteboards and props to engage students. I believe in understanding the logic behind a topic, not only how to do something and I find that this approach resonates with students. The first lesson will consist of icebreaker activities to get to know each other and a basic diagnostic or mental maths skills. Following this, future lessons will be based on what the student is working towards, whether it be GCSE higher maths, or functional skills maths. My mantra is 'teach the student, not the subject'.
