I prefer working using a shared screen as I want to see what you are seeing. In terms of teaching, I am quite old-fashioned and it really does depend on what you need from me. For example, if it is coursework, I will help in terms of the writing, grammar checking etc. Whereas if it is close analysis, we can read together, picking out the key analytical parts that will form the content for an essay/exam question. I am not keen on setting 'prep', as it were, however, should a student want to give me work to mark/look over, I am more than happy to. In this case, we will then go through it together to avoid the student simply focusing on the mark and glossing over everything else.
In terms of experience, at school, I ran regular, informal English clinics in my boarding house, especially around coursework deadline and exam times, helping various students achieve a range of grades from 9s-7s.
With regards to my own experience, I achieved two grade 9s at GCSE, studying the texts 'Of Mice and Men', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Out, Out', 'Disabled', and 'An Inspector Calls'. I received full marks on my coursework in both English Literature and Language, and dropped 7 marks across both papers.
