Basak Duru

I am a writer and educator. I offer online Turkish lessons to students of all levels. Over the years, I have worked as an editor for magazines, a columnist for newspapers, and a copywriter for advertising agencies. Since 2017, I have been working in the film and television industry. In addition to writing screenplays for TV series and films, I have also published a children’s book and a novel. I also teach creative writing through the analysis of films, TV series, and books for those who want to improve their writing skills. Turkish is my native language, and I have a B2 level of English proficiency.

Since I have experience in many different areas of Turkish writing, we create a personalized lesson plan based on the student’s interests and goals. The lessons may focus on essay writing, short stories, film or TV series analysis, book analysis, free writing, creative writing, storytelling, and story structure. Writing and sharing my experience in this field is a true passion of mine.

I live in Istanbul, Türkiye, but I frequently travel to London to visit friends. I am also available to come to the UK for short-term intensive Turkish language and writing courses if needed. For example, I can offer one-on-one lessons for students preparing for exams during pre-exam periods, or provide short-term training programs for companies upon request.

I believe that the easiest and most effective way to learn a language is by working with a native speaker. One of my greatest advantages is my experience in different fields related to the Turkish language, as well as my background as a writer, which allows me to create inspiring and creative learning experiences.
