As a student myself, I realised that the most important part of learning maths is practice. Working through problems helps identify both strengths and weaker areas, while also developing exam technique. My goal in lessons is to help students recognise these areas and improve the parts that matter most for their exams.
In my lessons, we will work through real exam style questions together. I will guide students step by step through problems so they can fully understand the reasoning behind each method, rather than simply memorising steps. By focusing on understanding the concepts, students will gain the confidence to apply their knowledge to a larger variety of questions.
The questions used in lessons will be created by myself or taken from past exam papers to ensure they are relevant and useful.
In addition, I sometimes introduce interesting ideas slightly beyond the GCSE specification or share useful mathematical insights in order to spark curiosity within students. Developing genuine interest in maths can greatly improve motivation and dedication towards studying it, which ultimately leads to better results. This could also potentially help in the future when applying to university, as students who show great interest in their subject and go beyond their specification are what universities are looking for.

I also aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident asking questions and discussing their ideas. As a student myself, I understand that everyone learns differently, so I try to tailor explanations and approaches to suit each individual’s needs and learning styles.
